Inflammatory Bowel Disease Program

Education

Yale University School of Medicine has an ACGME-accredited three-year gastroenterology fellowship.  Fellows are doctors who have graduated from medical school and have already completed three years of internal medicine training.  They are fully trained and could practice medicine in the community.  However, they have chosen to advance their education and focus on the subspecialty of gastroenterology.  An important component of training gastroenterology fellows is active participation in patient care under the direct supervision of an experienced gastroenterologist.  A gastroenterology fellow usually initially evaluates patients who attend our Yale IBD Program.  After the fellow has finished his or her evaluation, one of the attending physicians who specialize in inflammatory bowel disease then also thoroughly evaluates each patient.  We believe that these two evaluations only enhance the quality of care that we can deliver to each and every patient.
