Surgery for inflammatory bowel disease involves restorative proctocolectomy and the ileoanal pouch procedure for ulcerative colitis, strictureplasty and bowel conserving surgery for abdominal Crohn’s disease, and procedures that preserve anal sphincter function and decreasing the need for colostomy in patients with perianal Crohn’s disease.
